Masia Empordà - Complete renovation
Proyecto
Inside the Baix Empordà we find this beautiful country house, a unique place to enjoy an incomparable setting. The space was almost in its original state, no major renovations since it was built, and that was almost 100 years ago! What made us focus our efforts on “recovering” the space. Because, why did you have to do something new if what was there had worked for so many years?
We set out to bring its original stone walls back to life, walls more than 50 cm wide, and its wooden beamed ceilings that were in poor condition, this was basically the box we had to work with. And from here we decided to provide natural light and warmth to all those interior spaces that were historically dark. At first there were many small rooms, a single bathroom for the whole house and different outbuildings with different uses. Seeing all these spaces as a whole allowed us to project a house adapted to the needs of today but with the character of a century-old house.
This reform was undoubtedly a box of surprises, some of which were pleasant, such as the appearance of some very special old architectural elements to which we wanted to give the importance they had. And other times, these surprises came in the form of unforeseen events, which in the case of a modern construction would be very easy to solve, but in the case of a farmhouse they required a very elaborate process and the supervision of rehabilitation technicians. Finally, we were able to overcome all the obstacles and get the best result. The outer area at first looked very poor and went unnoticed among such an expanse of land.
We decided to landscape a more limited area with the idea of having a garden that is as sustainable as possible, with a pool and a porch to enjoy the impressive views of the typical crop fields of the area. To carry out this reform we require the hiring of an architect, an interior designer and a landscaper.
